About Centre for Nanotechnology in IIT Roorkee, Roorkee

Centre for Nanotechnology was established in December 2005 as one of the Centres of Excellence. The faculty of the centre,drawn from different departments is involved in developing state-of-the-art facilities at the institute and is vigorously
pursuing interdisciplinary research on various current aspects of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. For this purpose the Institute has granted six MHRD assistantships to the centre. A wide range of sophisticated equipment related to nanotechnology has been made operational at IIC involving the multidisciplinary
faculty of the centre.
In view of the major impact of ‘Nanoscience’ in vast disciplines of Science and Technology, M.Tech. program on ‘Nanotechnology was started in 2008. This course is aimed at providing the basic know how to B.Tech./M.Sc. students about various concepts of nanoscale materials, their synthesis, characterization, novel properties, applications and future perspectives. This being a multidisciplinary area, a number of electives have been designed to impart-knowledge on modeling
and simulation, physics, chemistry, biological and technological aspects of nanomaterials. Besides, it is providing students a practical training on advanced methods being employed for the synthesis, characterization and elucidation of different nanostructures. This expertise could be utilized to fabricate new materials and nanodevices.
