About Him

Yogiswara Piyush is a 29 year old Yoga teacher who was born and brought up in a traditional Himalayan village near Uttarkashi. Son to a family of Brahmin priests, he was exposed from infancy to the Hindu Orthodox tradition and interacted with a number of Saints in his early age. He started practicing very early in his life under their guidance and was inspired by them to join the Sivanada Yoga Teachers Training Course to learn Yoga intensively. He then further developed his expertise by taking the Advanced Yoga Teacher Training Course in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, South India.

Yogiswara Piyush has extensive Yoga teaching experience in different ashrams and Yoga centers in India, as well as in the Sivananda Yoga Retreat in the Bahamas where he served for 1 year. From beginners to advanced students, he teaches not only Asanas and Pranayamas, but also shares messages from the Bhagavad Gita. As well as being a very gifted Yoga teacher, Yogiswara Piyush is also an expert cook of Indian traditional cuisine; he was therefore given the opportunity to work as a chef at the Sivanada Yoga Retreat in 2013 alongside his Yoga teaching.

He is devoted to promoting healthy eating to bring balance to the body, mind and soul and shares his knowledge with his students in each of his wonderful classes. His other interests include playing the tabla (percussion instrument often used in Hindu classical music) and chanting, through which he is able to beautifully guide his students into Bhakti, the Yoga of devotion.

Additonally, Yogiswara Piyush studied Ayurveda and is a trained Ayurvedic masseur. He therefore has a deep understanding about holistic healing, as Ayurveda is based on the fundamental principle that health is the natural state of an individual as long as the body and mind are in harmony with nature. Ayurveda is the oldest form of health care in the world. It is considered the sister science of Yoga and said to have originated in India over 5000 years ago, at approximately the same time as the emergence of Yoga. It is referred to as the healing science of India and utilizes the blessings of nature and spirit to restore balance to the body.

Furthermore, Yogiswara Piyush was one of the organizers of the Himalayan Yatra (sacred trek) held by the Heart Pilgrim community in 2014 for which he handled logistics and shared his passion for Yoga…
