Would you believe if we said that babies are born with rhythm and that it comes effortlessly to them? How about if we say even if you can't hear the difference of a Salsa (quick, quick, slow) and a Cha Cha (slow, slow, quick, quick, quick) your little wonder can? Did you know that the human system naturally entrains itself to the pulse of music?

Yes, from as early as our days in the womb listening to the inner rhythm of our mother's heartbeat, to the rocking, swaying, and bouncing as a baby, to the countless times we moved and sang along to our favorite song as an infant, to those nights in the club dancing, as a teenager, to a steady beat with all the strangers; our nervous system, our brain and our metabolism are being programmed by rhythm.

Having said this, it is important that we continue benefiting from the ‘beat’ for a healthier and more relaxed lifestyle through exploring ‘rhythm’ that could help refine motor control skills, reduce stress and increase a sense of balance, enhance cognitive abilities, improve verbal intelligence and also treat neurodevelopmental disabilities.

Studies show that music can heal because it helps in engaging more areas of the human brain than any other known human activity. So, how about dusting your old favorite instrument and reconnecting with music or encouraging your little one to step into the world of music and dance?
