Sriperumbudur is located 40 km west south-west of the city of Chennai. Since 2000, Sriperumbudur has seen rapid industrialization, attracting huge investments due to its proximity to Chennai port, infrastructure growth, establishment of STPIs and SEZs and availability of quality manpower. The city offers all facilities that the international industrial giants want for their business to operate in the country. The planned greenfield Chennai Airport will come up in Sriperumbudur.
Hyundai was one of the initial investors when they established their Indian car operations in 1999 in Sriperumbudur. Later, Saint-Gobain and Nokia, Ford, Hindustan Motors, Mitsubishi, BMW and lately Nissan set up operations turning this Chennai suburban town into a large scale industrial hub. As of 2008, Sriperumbudur is a special economic zone with more than $2 billion invested by companies like Sanmina, SCI, Flextronics, Foxconn, Jabil, Dell and Samsung. The town is also regarded as India's answer to Shenzhen, China. Saint Ramanuja Temple
Sriperumbudur is the birth place pf Sri Ramanuja, the Hindu Saint and philosopher well known for his role in the Vaishnavism sect. Sri Ramanujar is one of the foremost propounders of Sri Vaishnavism. Sri Ramanujar's Vigraha ( Divine Idol made of 5 metals including gold, silver, bronze, copper and iron) was installed in this temple when His Holiness was alive.

Vallakottai Murugan Temple
Vallakottai Murugan temple, 9 km from Sriperumbudur, is known for the tallest Lord Murugan statue in India (9 m).

Rajiv Gandhi Memorial
On 21 May 1991, Rajiv Gandhi, the then former Prime Minister of India was assassinated by a human bomb in Sriperumbudur. The government has converted the area into the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial.

Madras Motor Sports Club
Another attraction is the Madras Motor Sports Club which organizes world class racing events every year at Irungattukotai near Sriperumbudur. Among the events conducted by the club are the South India Rally and the Al India Motor Race Meet. Federation Internationale de Motorcyclisme (FIM) and the Federation Internationale du Sport Automotive (FISA) have licensed to race up to formula III for cars and all classes of two-wheelers. The club also has a dirt track for auto cross events.

Singaperumal Temple
Singaperumal temple is about 25 Kms from tambaram and the temple is just 100 meters off the GST road. The village is named after the deity of the temple. The main deity here is of Lord Narasimhar. This is a beautiful rock cut temple. The temple and the deity are carved out of a small hillock.

Kanchipuram
Kanchipuram district is situated on the north-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu, adjacent to the Bay of Bengal and Chennai city. Kanchipuram is one of the seven sacred cities of India. Kanchipuram is famous for its temples, hand-woven silk fabrics and saris. Kanchipuram is also known as Silk City. The sankaracharya 'Math' is situated here.

Vellore Fort
The fort houses a church, a mosque and a Hindu temple, the latter known for its carvings. The first rebellion against British rule erupted at this fort in 1806. The fort is a noteworthy example of military architecture in South India. The Fort also houses the Tipu Mahal where Tipu Sultan is believed to have stayed with his family during the war with the British; the graves of Tipu's sons are found at Vellore. The fort is administered by the Archeological Survey of India. Vellore Fort has been declared a Monument of National Importance and is a noted tourist attraction.

Sripuram Golden Temple
Sri Lakshmi Temple, popularly known as Golden Temple,[38] is a newly built temple ad spiritual park in Thirumalaikodi, Vellore. The temple is located on 100 acres and has intricate carvings, hand-made by hundreds of gold artisans specializing in temple architecture. The exterior of the temple is laid with gold sheets and plates, with construction reported to have cost Rs.300 crores (US$65 million). About 1,500 kg of gold was used for the temple, the largest amount in the world. The lighting is arranged in such a way that the temple glitters even at night. This is the second golden temple in India.
