The Old man's Den, a home stay in true blue form. Rupankush, the quant hillside house located in Jakhu, above & away from the hustle & bustle of everyday Shimla life, this property is now up & ready for guests of all ages, from all places.This property, build by a forest officer from yester years, is a typical old time cottage with attics, wooden floors, glass fronts & dated wooden furniture. Guaranteed to give you some peace of mind & a quiet getaway from the everyday ordinary. Tucked away into the mountain, this cottage has a beautiful view of the mountains, with the famous Jakhu Temple up in the distance. A walk from the den down to Mall Road will take you just 10 minutes. And if you are a nature lover, you will enjoy walking towards the forest road called the Lover's Lane & the once famous Five Benches – giving you a small taste of old times, remnants of the British Raj!!
The Old man's Den is maintained & operated by the old man himself, Anil Mehta, along with his wife Sushma & their mother fondly known to all as 'Ammaji' or ‘Dadi’. Needless to say, the den will provide home cooked meals, beverages, & anything else that may be needed by guests & is expected of a home. All of this with a lovely mix of homeliness & care. The owners often shuttle between their orchards nestled away into the interiors of Himachal about 120 odd kms away. None the less, the cottage is always available & the orchard farm houses namely Sidz Cottage and Himalayan Orchard can also be visited or used upon request with the owners. One could enjoy an overnight trip or choose to stay on a real orchard estate!!
For the regular city bumkin – the Old Man's Den provides a quiet getaway from the everyday. For the nature & trail junkie – the old man (an avid mountain man & nature enthusiast himself) knows exactly where & what you should do in & around the mountains of Himachal, will pretty much hook you up and/or even accompany you on a trek or trail or activity or camp, whatever may be the ask of the hour. For the international backpacker – the old man & his den will make sure to give you an experience that is truly rustic, informative & personal, with stories & history from in & around Himachal – pretty much carrying you away into time.
This homestay is being promoted by Sandhya Tyagi of Adventure Hills. She being within the family and from a defense background ,where the thrills and adventure of exploring unkown destination has inspired her ,she has the ability to offer packages that include adventure trips, treks & camps, nature trails & expeditions in & round the great Himalayas all through Himachal & the valley. You must have a chat with the old man to truly get an understanding to the width of offerings here. All of this comes with a lifetime of experience & love for the mountains.
Currently on offer are 2 bedrooms, 1 attic room along with a common drawing room, dining room & kitchen. Available as a whole or in parts, you have the choice of relaxing with the old man & his lovely wife or taking some private time away from everything.

*Guide for Shimla tour can be arranged, subject to availability.
*Taxis for pick up & drop and sight seeing can be arranged.
