It is said that globally around 314 million people suffering with total / partial loss of vision out of these 45 million are blind, and 269 million have low vision. The truth is that 90 percent of people with vision deformities are from low income countries. More so, every year less then a percent are added to the numbers which means around 2 million are included. Having been mentioned that the scenario of India is equally pathetic; it is home for largest blind population in the world and this is around 12 million. More so the prevalence rate of blindness among rural community is high and sadly women are more affected then men. In general, men have access to medical facilities twice that of women but still due to shortage of proper medical and rehabilitation services a large number of blind individuals are forced to live on the edge of survival.

All our members At Tapasya Charitable Trust (TCT) have personal experience in overcoming these odds in life and we firmly believe that every other individual who lost his / her vision can regain their life and live with dignity. Our learning is that the onset of blindness increases greater amount of dependency on others for their daily living like travel independently, access to information, home management and every other essential activity in life which is critical for them to live confidently and independently . As a result ,this dis-empower them at all stages and spears of their life. In this regard access to rehabilitation services to people with vision deformities is very critical for them to be effective in their life that enables them to tap opportunities successfully.
