As long as the kids are having fun while playing soccer, nothing else matters. It’s been a challenging but rewarding journey in grassroots soccer for Soccernova (the first professionally run football academy in Pune) from where SocaWaka was born. Soca - The name is set to the world’s best loved sport and Waka – the vibrant beat synonymous to soccer to which the kids move and play.

The SocaWaka program focuses on creating a love for soccer and making little tots tough athletes and good sportsmen. We teach the kids soccer on a 5000 sq.ft artificial turf ground, ensuring the children have ample space to run and play and flex their little bodies through energetic warm ups, creative game play and learn the technical aspect of the game with our trained coaches. We provide the kids with a SocaWaka uniform that reflects the vibrant colors of Brazil and makes them look like a real team!

Before being an amateur coach, I am a parent first and I realize the importance of early foundations of play that brings children well being at a physical, emotional and social level. SocaWaka believes in building and sustaining the health of the children in the community through physical activity and movement through soccer. To get your child out of the habit of television and IPad’s send them to SocaWaka so we can start to build a healthy and active lifestyle for them.

Kids usually want to smash the soccer ball the minute they get onto the ground and play ‘real football’ like daddy does! SocaWaka sessions are different from the usual football classes being run in the city as they focus on each and every child having the ball at their feet all the time. Our approach is Child First. This entails a coach child ratio of 1:8 and that each child is attended to in a loving and caring manner. SocaWaka shapes the child’s attitude, motor skills, athletic ability, foot-eye coordination, skill development and teaches them to be spirited and resilient.

Our teams enthusiasm spreads like wild fire and my kids love the game, I personally am a big kid at heart! Our practices are goofy, we imitate animals, airplanes, pirates & all the latest cartoon characters while playing soccer. I always start my session by teaching the kids one core value necessary to be a good human being. Whether its discipline, sharing or honesty I ask them to come up with examples and that way I get all of them to talk and share in a group.

We yell "Goaaaaaaaaaalllllllll" when they score. We do "victory" celebrations after goals. I give out so many high fives that I pretend that they've hurt my hand when they give me a good one! We do team cheers, we have constant, non-stop fast paced FUN at practice, and they are learning soccer every minute, even though they don't even realize it, with hundreds of touches on the ball.

I have only two rules I tell my players when they show up for their practice:
1.We only touch the balls with our feet.
2.We always have FUN.
