Guru Dutt Films has been an integral part of the Film Industry for 56 years. Founded in 1954 by the legendary Director, Actor and Producer Shri Guru Dutt. Guru Dutt Films has left behind a trail of entertaining musicals with Aar Paar, Mr & Mrs 55 and C.I.D. Guru Dutt then moved on to creating his Classics in Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Chaudhvin Ka Chand and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam. These films have been considered as iconic landmarks in the history of Hindi Cinema, admired and revered by contemporary actors and filmmakers alike.

Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool were rated by Time Magazine and Sight and Sound Critics Polls as one of the hundred Greatest Films ever made around the world.

CNN Network named Guru Dutt in the list of five best Actors from India. The list also included Amitabh Bachchan, Nargis, Pran and Meena Kumari.

One of the founding members of Guru Dutt Films was his wife Smt. Geeta Dutt. Guru Dutt met Geeta Roy in 1951 during the song recording for Dev Anand’s Baazi, Guru Dutt’s first Directorial venture. Geeta Roy was already a star playback singer having sung over a hundred film songs by then. They soon fell in love and after a courtship of two years they married in 1953. They had three children Tarun, Arun and Nina.

Tarun and Arun Dutt took over the management of Guru Dutt Films from 1978. They produced two films in the banner titled “Bindiya Chamkegi”, starring Rekha, Vinod Mehra, Amjad Khan, Johnny Walker amongst others, directed by Tarun Dutt with Music by R.D.Burman. They then made a film titled “Khule Aam”, starring Dharmendra, Shammi Kapoor, Chunkey Pandey, Neelam, Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Danny Denzongpa, Directed by Arun Dutt with Music by R.D.Burman.

With the sudden passing away of Tarun Dutt in 1989, Arun Dutt took over the management of Guru Dutt Films.

Arun Dutt has now launched Guru Dutt Films Acting Academy in Pune, where he now resides. Having trained under his uncle Atma Ram, Vijay Anand, Kantilal Rathod and Shekhar Kapur. Arun Dutt has mastered the Art of film Direction, Editing and Cinematography and is currently a technical member of the National Film Archives, Pune, for the Restoration of old and classic films.
