About COP in Opposite JSS College,Elkhill, Ootacamund (Ooty)

The Clean Ooty Project has been started with the aim and firm belief that Ooty, “The Queen of the Hills,” will one day be spotlessly clean, for the pristine beauty it is. Our hope is that citizens living in this land will join the initiative and make this a reality.

While there are efforts by the municipality to keep the place clean by way of garbage bins and garbage collection from homes and hoardings and sign boards encouraging citizens to, “Find a Bin, Put it In,” they clearly seem to be not enough. All one needs to do is to look around to see the amount of waste on the roadsides and the overflowing garbage bins. This is despite the municipality workers cleaning areas every now and then.

The magnitude of the task of cleaning up Ooty is too big to be accomplished by the government workers alone. Every citizen must participate to make this a reality. Separating wet and dry garbage and composting are things that one can do in one’s own home to contribute to the larger cause. Off course, one could also go beyond the four walls of their house and ensure that the surrounding areas are clean. It could even go one step further by volunteering to join the Clean Ooty Project Squad in cleaning up a public place.

A clean Ooty will only benefit the local citizen and the tourist alike. Not only will Ooty look more beautiful and attractive it will also have lesser health hazards and it will help to preserve this great place for future generations.
