A festival known as the “Festivals of Festival”, the Hornbill festival is celebrated in the first week of December every year. The tribes inhabiting the state relate their lifestyle and many other activities to their religious and mythical belief and thus this festival is considered as a sacred festival so there is a huge participation from all the major tribes. Named after the bird Indian Hornbill, this festival was first organized in year 2000 by the Nagaland Government to promote the tourism and the cultural heritage of Nagaland. A blend of rare and rich cultural feast can be enjoyed one roof during this festival.It is the best opportunity to understand the people and culture of Nagaland, to experience the food, songs, dances and customs of Nagaland. Major highlights of the festival are the exhibition and sale of arts and crafts, cultural medley and other musical and dance performances, completely oriented toward their rich culture and showcasing their heritage.
