Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji Maharaj,the sixth of the Sikh gurus, was to be captured by the Mughal Emperor,Jahangir Khan,as Guruji’s majesty and his name had already spread in the entire world.To appease the angry ruler, Guru ji himself decided to visit Delhi. On his journey to Delhi, his disciples gave him immense respect. Dewan and satsangs were held at different places where Guru ji stopped to rest. Guru Ji rested near the place where Nishan Sahib is currently present, and thereby blessed the place with his purifying soul.
Baba Buddha ji rested at the place where kutiya is currently present, and looked after the horses. Guru ji even dug a well and a water body(pond) here with his own hands. Jahangir’s spouse,Nur Jahan, was blessed by Guru ji’s darshan at this place. She prayed to Guru ji for Mumtaz Mahal’s good health as her niece,Mumtaz, was really ill at that time. Mumtaz Mahal was cured after drinking the holy water given by Guru ji. Guru ji even made arrangements for langar.
This place is blessed with Guru ji’s sacred soul and drinking the purifying water of sarovar cures all the physically and mentally ill people.
Baba Baghel Singh Dhaliwal ,along with his 30,000 warriors, on their way to conquer Delhi in late 1770s stopped and rested at this holy place. Before proceeding towards Tees Hizari, they took care of the horses near a water body(pond) which was built by Baba Buddha ji during his stay at Gurudwara. Now,this pond has been converted to sarovar of Gurudwara Hargobindsar Sahib.
In 1984 riots, 29 people sacrificed their lives while protecting Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and the premises of Gurudwara Hargobindsar Ji.
This place was founded and built by Sant Baba Gurmail Singh Ji (known as Baghe Purane Waale or Lopon Waale) . He was also responsible for establishing other Gurudwaras in Jammu, Srinagar,Ganganagar,and Bagha Purana. Sant Baba Gurmail Singh Ji took the Samadhi in 1996 while he was doing kar seva at Gurudwara Guru Nanak Charan Asthan,Beerbah,Srinagar. As per his predecessor’s wish,Sant Baba Gurdial Singh Ji is now doing sewa of this holy place.
Gurudwara Sri Guru Hargobindsar Sahib ji has been built in the sacred memory of these events.
Since 1975,non stop akhand paath is being held at this gurudwara for maintaining peace for the whole humanity except during 1984 riots when all the sewadars were killed while protecting the holy premises,resulting in the interruption of the paath for some days. Gurudwara Hargobindsar Sahib Ji also provides free kitchen(langar) to all the needy people without any discrimination on the basis of caste,religion,sex etc. With a strategic location on NH-1,thousands of pilgrims stop and stay at this gurudwara while on their way to other religious places like Mata Vaishno Devi Ji, Gurudwara Hazoor Sahib Ji,Gurudwara Paonta Sahib Ji etc.

Currently, this gurudwara is being managed by Gurudwara Hargobind Sar Welfare Trust under the chairmanship of Sardar Harpal Singh Dhaliwal Ji and large number of sangat.
Recently,a new 121 metre-long hydraulic powered Nishan Sahib, the very first one in Delhi, was hoisted in Gurudwara Hargobindsar,G.T Karnal Road,New Delhi-1100036.
