About Organisation for Early Literacy Promotion in B-2 -2198, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi

Our core values: OELP seeks to promote social justice and equality through qualitatively rich and responsive educational experiences. We believe that each child is unique and if given a facilitative environment and meaningful opportunities will blossom into an active thinker and lifelong learner.

Our focus on young learners within early grade classrooms is based on research evidence which has convincingly highlighted that the foundations for learning and development are laid in the early years of a child’s life, and these have a lifelong impact on all aspects of his or her future development. Our focus is on the natural learning behaviours of young children and how these can be facilitated inside classrooms to make learning purposeful and meaningful for each child.

Current locationsOur main work site is in the Ajmer District of Rajasthan. In 2013 we were appointed as a resource organization by Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT). In this capacity we have been involved in the professional development of selected partner organizations of SRTT and SDTT (Sir Dorabji Tata Trust) from Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttrakhand. In addition to this we have regularly provided training and resource support to organizations across five districts of Rajasthan.

OELP has worked closely with the State, especially the Government of Rajasthan through the State Education Department and Rajasthan, SSA at the district and block levels. We have participated in their training programmes as resource persons. At the national level we have been a member of the National Reading Cell of NCERT; and are also a member of the MHRD Advisory Body for Early Literacy. In this capacity we were involved in developing the guidelines for the Padhe Bharat Badhe Bharat Programme of MHRD. Over the past two years we have been invited to share our work at several national and international fora.In August, 2011 we were selected as an NGO representative from India to make a presentation at the UNESCO South Asia Conference in Bangkok on the theme Community Learning Centers. Subsequently a case study of our Early Literacy Project (ELP) was compiled by UNESCO and can be viewed through the link below:
