A post graduate in Western History from Liucknow University is a trained Kathak Dancer, teacher & choreographer. Her ardent devotion, unrelenting “Riyaz” and a thirst for equibalance in TAL ( rhythm), ANG (movements) and ABHINAYA ( acting or histronics) has helped her work to attract both the connoisseur and the audience.

After topping the three year diploma course conducted by Kathak Kendra…Delhi, she was trained under the tutelage of Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj…under the “Guru Shishya Parampara since a very tender age: she learnt percussion …Phakhawaj & Tabla under Guru Purushottam Dasji of Nathdwara…thus imbibing the nuances of rhythm ..so important to the extensive understanding of the complexities of the instrument and its relation & consonance to the Kathak format.

Kalpana has performed extensively in India and won acclaim for her work & repertoire. She performed for the “Spirit of Unity Concerts’ a very prestigious platform showcasing the countries talent along with her Guru’s elder son Jai Kishen Maharaj & Deepak Maharaj The program was live telecasted and won her a lot of acclaim from all quarters
She has been associated with leading Musical bodies like Consrevatory of Indian classical music..Madras, Punjab association..Madras, BhartiyaNrithya Kalamandir..Patna, here as professor kathak, she was honoured by the state Govt of Bihar to preside as the Judge for the Bihar youth festival, and performed extensively here in Governors’( AN Kidwai) house, and othe r stae Govt Programmes.

She was all along associated ot Kathak Kendra where she was trained inpresentation of shows under Keshav Kothari. She was teaching with leading schools of delhi mainly being Convent of Jesus & Mary & St. Thomass’ giving numerous choreographies mainly…stree, aakansha,” jit dekheoon tit shyam ..shyam ..shyam hai”etc. She choreographed several programmes for Bhagwan satya Sai Baba’s organization & school in Puttaparthy…..like sports’ day & Prize Distrbution function of the Vidyagiri, & “ Cosmic Play” & Tukaram… for the Sai samiti..Delhi. Before opening her own NGO Kalpana taught Kathak at Sangeet Bharti, & was instrumental in the making of Birju maharaj’s KALASHRAM in delhi and noew has her own NGO…Kalahetu…which she runs since its inception in1997. its motto is:
