Lord Jagannath Temple (PURI) - Lord Jagannath, the symbol of universal love and is worshiped in the Temple along with Balabhadra, Subhadra, Sudarshan, Madhaba, Sridevi and Bhudevi on the Ratnabedi or the bejewelled platform. The Deities, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Chakra Sudarshan are made of margosa wood.

Sree Neelachala Seva Sangh established the temple in Hauz Khas in 1969 after getting land from the Delhi Development Authority. The then Orissa Government had also contributed for the temple, would also serve as a centre of cultural, religious and spiritual interests of Oriyas in Delhi. The Lord’s Yatra began first in 1979 after the temple was built.

The Jagannath temple at Hauz Khas is the centre of cultural conglomeration for Oriyas in Delhi.The Hauz Khas Jagannath temple, however, was not built by any influential or powerful persons. It came up with the initiative of a working class Oriya population comprising mostly of plumbers and small salaried people, bearing testimony that Sri Jagannath is the ‘dear Lord of the masses’.


Throughout the year, Jagannath temple also celebrates the nine day long festival Rath Yatra as well as Bahuda Yatra,Debasnana Purnima, Kartik Purnima, Shivaratri, Janamashtmi, Basant Panchami/ Pratishtha Diwas/ Saraswati Puja, Ganesh Chaturthi, Maa Tarini's Chaiti Parba, Baisakhi/ Pana Sankranti.

In Delhi, the rath yatra was taken out in different areas. The largest show is at the Jagannath temple of Shree Neelachala Seva Sangh in Hauz Khas village in South Delhi, where over one-and-a-half lakh devotees takes part in the procession.

Maha-prasada is pure vegetarian spiritual food offered to Lord Jagannath. Just by eating this maha-prasada one makes great spiritual advancement.
