About

Nawegaon Bandh National Park is a national park located in the Gondia district of Maharashtra, India. Nawegaon Bandh, a popular resort in the jungle in the region of Vidarbha, the eastern part of Maharashtra, was built in the 18th century. The picturesque lake set amidst lush hills in Nawegaon Bandh, has a tower next door. One can have a bird's eye view of the surrounding jungle and marvel at the exciting wildlife watchtower which consists of a deer park, bird sanctuary Dr. Salem and three exotic gardens. Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Nawegaon Bandh is home to almost 60% of the bird species found throughout Maharashtra. Every winter, flocks of migratory birds visit the beautiful lake very rare for the eyes. The national park has various types of vegetation ranging from dry mixed forest to rainforest. The forest type is 5 A/C3. Southern tropical dry forest.
The most unique experiences Nawegaon Bandh National Park you will have to go on a jungle safari, be on top of the tree house and a sailboat ride on the lake.

Etymology

The name "Nawegaon " comes from the word (meaning new ship in Marathi and Gaon mean village) Ship + gaon. This area is also known as Navegaon Bandh locally (In English bandh means Dam) due to the presence of the water mass. Zoological Values
Although Nawegaon Bandh is best known as a bird sanctuary, a number of wild animals could also be seen. The vertebrate fauna includes, besides a number of fish, 209 species of birds, 9 species of reptiles and 26 species of mammals including tiger, panther, jungle cat, Small Indian Civet, Palm Cavet, Wolf, Jackle, Bisons , Sambars, Nilgais, Chitals, wild boar, sloth bears, and wild dogs in the national park.

Botanical Values
One of the unique features of this sanctuary is the existence of various types of vegetation ranging from dry forests mixed with rain forests. Its forests belong to the category of "southern tropical dry deciduous" - 5A/C3 according to the revised classification of forests by Champion and Seth. This sanctuary serves as a living repository of several,,, species of aromatic and medicinal plants, ornamental economic. Includes, teak, Haldu, Jamun, Kawat, Mahua, Ain, Bhel and Bhor.

Geological values
This sanctuary showcases an amazing diversity of terrain and altitude ranges from about 30 meters to about 702 meters above mean sea level, which is the highest point of the sanctuary. The geological formations are typical Sakoli series have several formations made of phyllites, slates, etc. chlorite and saucer sets. The rocks of the two groups appear to show differences in the chemical composition of rocks containing lime. The difference is that the mineralogy of the rocks commonly contain Saucer Group BioLite but feldspar and chlorite while Sakoli group invariably contain chlorite, rarely BioLite and Feldspar. Threats
Human-wildlife conflict is common, with the slaughter of livestock by tigers and leopards as a frequent occurrence in villages neighboring areas. This has a negative impact on the economic situation of the local population and results in antagonism towards management. In many years there have been up to 3 people and 30 to 50 head of cattle killed by tigers or leopards.

ii) Under UK - Indomalaysian
iii) Bio-geographic Zone - 6 - Deccan Peninsula
iv) Biotic Province - 6 B - Central Deccan.
This bio-geographic zone is one of the most bio-geographical unprotected India, rich in diversity of flora and fauna. Therefore requires a high degree of protection.

RAIL
The nearest station is Deulgaon in Gondia-Chandrapur railway route. Trains can be taken from Gondia railway station. Other train stations are:

By plane
The nearest airport is Nagpur (~ 120 km) and Gondia (private jet).

Information for visitors
Accommodation
One can be in nursing homes or Youth Hostel in Gondia. National Park also offers regular suites and cottages, but also offers a unique tree top retreat with two suites and MTDC bookings.
Interpretation Banquet Center, small museum and library are available in the park. Seven clocks cottages five watchtowers found in the park for wildlife viewing and photography.
Time
Temperatures are pleasant all year round.The best time to visit the national park is during April and May.
