About Sri AdiKesava Emberumanar Swamy Kovela in KOVEL AGRAHARAM, Narasapur

Sri AdiKesava Emberumaanar Swamy Temple is a famous temple in Narsapur, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the famous Sri Vaishnava temples in India.

Around three centuries ago, Sri Puppala Ramanappa Naidu, a translator working for the British East India Company, underwent Sri Ramayana Kalapshekams under Sriman U.Ve Eunni Ramanujacharya Swami. After the kalapshekams are fully done, Sri Ramanappa Naidu wanted to offer Guru dakshina to Sri Ramanujacharya Swami. A true saint as Sri Ramanujacharya Swami has got no business with any wealth, and instructed Sri Ramanappa Naidu to construct Sri Emberumanar Swami kovela in Narsapuram in parlance with swami’s kovela in Sriperumbudur. A sincere disciple as Sri Ramanappa Naidu ventured to Sriperumbudur to fulfill the desires of his acharya.

In Sriperumbudur, the birth place of Swami Emperumanar, an another thirumeni of Swami Emberumanar is arranged in ekasanam (same altar) with the original thirumeni of emberumanar. After six months of thiruvaradhanam to both thirumenis together, the new thirumeni is brought to Abhinava Bhoothapuri (Abhinava Sriperumbudur or Narasapuram) and is installed in Sri Adikesava Swami kovela. Sri Adikesava Swami kovela in Narsapuram is built by Sri Ramanappa Naidu replicating the structure of Sriperumbudur Adikesava emperumanar swami kovela. While bringing Sri Emberumanar Swami in palanquin from Sriperumbudur to Narasapuram, 4 set of families of Sri Vaishnavas also migrated to attend to the regular services of Emperumanar Swami to ensure similar services as that in Sriperumbudur.

The Asanam (altar) of Sri Emberumanar Swami is called Bhadravedi or Thrivedi signifying the authority of Swami in all the three types of Sruthis namely bheda, abheda, and ghataka.

There is also a popular aithihyam that Sri Mudhaliyandan (thiruvadigal of Emperumanar) of Sriperumbudur is secretly brought to Narasapuram by these prapannas while bringing Swami from Sriperumbudur.

It was Constructed nearly 300 Years back by Sri Prasannagresara Puppala Ramanappa Naidu to fulfill his acharya U.Ve Sriman Eunni Ramanujacharya swamy ‘s desire. This is the image temple of SriPerumbudur Temple which is famous as avatara Sthala of Saint Ramanuja, the great philosopher of Vaishnavism. This temple follows SriPerumbudur temple tradition. This is only one of its kinds in Andhra Pradesh.

It was the Presence of Maha Vishnu as Sri Aadhi Kesava Swamy and AadhiSesha as Sri Bhagavadh Ramanujacharya. Ramanuja incarnated in the year 1017 AD on the 12th day of the month of Chitrai under the star Tiruvadirai.

The shrine of the main deity is thronging with devotees. Sri Adhikesavaperumal, with his consorts Sreedevi and Bhudevi, and Sri Emberumaanar bestows his abundant grace on his devotees. To the right of the main shrine is the sanctum sanctorum of Sri Ramanuja and to the left is Sree Yatirajanathavallithayar. Her name denotes that she is the consort of the master of the king of saints, Yathiraja (Ramanuja). This is the only temple where Goddess Lakshmi has a name attributed to a devotee of the lord. She is a “Varaprasadi”, who grants all wishes.

Devotees believed that AadhiKesava Swamy will remove their sorrows and problems. Kesava means that who has long beautiful hair. He is the most superior than the Brahma and Rudra. Also means that Kesi was killed by the Kesava.

The temple history tells that if the vampires will take a dip in that swamy Pushkarini, they destroy all their curses that’s why we called that the place as Abhinava Bhoothapuri. U.Ve Sriman Kidambi GopalaKrishnamacharya Swamy wrote in his Kavyas about the main Utsavas of the temple.

Every year Brahmostvams for Sri AdiKesava Swamy and Tirunakshatra Utsavas for Sri Ramanujacharya will takes place between April and May for this gracious moment Sri Vaishnava Acharyas and many Bhagavathas will come all across from India.

It is the great moment that we will get the grace of Sri Bhagavath Ramanuja. In these ThiruNakshatra Mahotsavams, the main thing is THADIYARADHANA.

Thadi means Bhagavatha ; Aradhana means Seva

Every SriVaishnava believes that Bhagavatha Seva is greater than the Bhagavath Seva. We are greatful to SriBhagavath Ramanuja that we have got this opportunity. This Thadiyaradhana was going on since 300 years with the blessings of Swamy Emberumaanar in Tirunakshatra Utsavas.

Sri Emberumaanar always attracts his devotees with his smile and mercy. We can’t get anywhere like this Prosperity. This is the real eye feast for the Vaishnavas. At present, the temple Resident Preceptor is U.Ve Sriman Kidambi Venkatacharya Swamy and Adhyapaka Swamy is Sriman Raghavacharya Swamy.
