Major Highlights of FPA India Mumbai Branch in 2013
•Bangala Desh parlimenterian team visited to the Bhiwandi RHFPC Target Intervention projects to know TI implementation strategies. During the discussion with the team it was learnt that we should be prepare for such visit because several innovative things were being conducted at projects sites
•Ms. Nancy Powell, US Ambassador visited Migrants Project of the FPA India Mumbai Branch in Bhiwandi.
•Wall paintings at 8 sides near railway stations and bus depo.To sensitize the mass target audience branch put-up two hoarding at Dadar railway station Central and western railway stations.
•Expanded outreach activities in the facility of the branch clinics.New 5 villages,14 Urban slums. During year Mumbai Branch expanded coverage of population was 19 % (2499782 populations) more than 2012.
•Strengthen partnership with 85 health care providers 5 Government Organization and 11 NGOs.
•Sensitized 282 ICDS workers about the Sexual Reproductive Health .
•500 posters were printed and pasted in the public places
•Branch started Adolescent SRH special service camps at outreach and started Two community Adolescent friendly centres in outreach
•Mumbai Branch inaugurated Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre supported by Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS) at Awabai Wadia Health Center, Tilak Nagar in month of September 2013.
•Mumbai Branch started Mobile Health Care services (Clinic on Wheels) in Bhiwandi Taluka with the support of the Mobile Van donated by the State Bank of India, Mumbai.
•Branch started a Satellite Clinic in Dongari (Mumbai) for promoting SRHR services among the needy women in the surrounding slum areas by entering into partnership agreement with the Maharashtra State Women’s Council, an HGO working for 94 years for the cause of women and children in different parts of Mumbai.
•The number of accepters provided SRHR services by the Branch in 2013 has increased by 58% for spacing methods and by 34% for permanent FP methods over the number of acceptors served in 2012.
•Immunisation services were introduced in SETU and MESU Projects with support from the Mumbai Municipal Corporation.
•In 2013 Branch introduced additional services, Hepatitis B testing and vaccination;Ante Natal Care and Child Health Care in all the Branch Service Delivery Points.
•Branch initiated improving its monitoring and evaluation system by sstrengthening CBD and PMP reporting system as also Computer Management Information System in clinics.
•Branch also streamlined the procurement and management of drugs, Lenin and equipments to ensure quality of services at all Branch SDPs.
•Branch started holding Weekly Staff meetings to ensure monitoring the progress of programmes and Projects, analyse performance and initiate proactive efforts vto ensure effective implementation of programmes supporting quality of care while following No Refusal policy in case of any client seeking the services.
•The Advocacy with Education Officer (EO) of Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) resulted in the Branch receiving permission to introduce Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) module in 50 Municipal schools in the academic year 2013-2014. Branch introduced CSE module in 15 municipal schools in 2013.
•Advocacy with the State Bank of India (SBI), Mumbai helped in getting donation of a Van (Tata–Winger) and to start the “Clinic on Wheels” in Bhiwandi Taluka in April 2013.
•Advocacy with the Additional Project Officer Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS) resulted in starting NACO recognised Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) at AWHC in September 2013.
•Advocacy with the Medical Officers of M East and West Municipal Wards of Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation contributed to holding special immunization camps once a month in SETU and MESU Projects from August 2013.
•Advocacy with the United Medical Association, Govandi for expansion of SRHR and FP services resulted in having partnership with 84 PMPs.
•Joint Advocacy efforts by Mumbai Branch and Arnataka Health Promotion Trust with the Kumbharwada Police Station helped in getting police assurance against harassment of Female Sex Workers in Branch run HIV Target Intervention Project in Bhiwandi.
•Advocacy with the Deputy Director, Health and Family Welfare resulted in getting recognition of AWHC as the Laparoscopic Sterilization Training Centre.
•Advocacy with Hindu Sabha Hospital has resulted in ensuring training of 20 trainees of ‘Bed Side Attendant’ course for internship and placement trice a week and job opportunities for the best trainees and also an invitation to a Branch volunteer to serve on its “Sexual Harassment Committee”.
•Advocacy with the Commissioner, Bhiwandi Nijampur Municipal Corporation (BNMC) resulted in starting special sale counters for the products made by the Self Help Groups (SHG) among the sex workers and an assurance of working with FPAI in taking health care initiatives in MCH and FP programmes.
•Advocacy with the Hari Masjid, in Shivaji Nagar, Govandi, Mumbai helped in including in its afternoon call for prayers the announcement on health checkups arranged by the Branch in observation of World AIDS Day 2013. This announcement helped 32 persons to access service in health camp.
•In 2013 Mumbai Branch started Global Comprehensive Abortion Care Initiative in PSK Bhiwandi.
•Provided Safe Abortion to the 5632 clients with the support of CBDs, PMPs, Link Workers, Branch Other Projects, Partner NGOs and Community Volunteers.
•Supported by community volunteers, Mumbai Branch had Wall paintings at 8 sites outreach areas and promoted accessing Safe Abortion services in government recognised centres.
•Sensitized 282 ICDS workers regarding the safe abortion services.
•Mumbai Branch recorded 42.2% increase in the number of acceptors of Safe Abortion services in 2013 as compared to the number served in 2012
•4325 adolescents (boys 1054; girls 2492 and 527 is a mixed group) were contacted through Comprehensive Sexuality Education sessions.
•Conducted 61 Special Service Session in the youth center, community and served 557 adolescents.
•Branch provided Comprehensive Sexuality Training for 36 peer educators from out of school.
•Branch conducted six sensitization meetings with parents and teachers on Comprehensive Sexual Education.
•Two Adolescents Friendly Centre initiated in P.L Lokhande Marg and Maharashtra Nagar Slum areas.
•20 youth trained as Master Trainer on Comprehensive Sexual Education from Colleges of Bhiwnadi, Thane, Mumbai Central.
