He has specialized in invasive coronary imaging like Intravascular Ultrasound and Optical Coherence Tomography. These are invasive imaging techniques which helps him to reduce the risks and improve the results of simple and complex angioplasty.

He has special interest in Functional Angioplasty. Functional Angioplasty is a technique by which we assess the pressures across a block. Then we decide whether angioplasty or bypass is actually needed and whether patient will actually benefit from the treatment. A block may be visually significant, but functionally the blood flow to that part of the heart may be adequate. Then angioplasty is done only for those blocks which have a pressure drop (functionally significant block). Those blocks which don’t have a pressure drop (blood flow is adequate) are best managed by medicines. The long term outcome of patients treated with functional angioplasty is better than those treated with conventional angioplasty. It also reduces the number of stents required and in many cases open heart surgery can also be avoided. This in turn reduces the overall cost of treatment and improves the patient prognosis. Moreover, all over the world, this is the gold standard technique to treat patients having blocks in coronary arteries.
