About National Youth Unity in , Kolkata

The crisis we face:

•The 2014 Human Development Report of UNDP (on education, health, and income) ranked India at 135th position among 187 countries.

•The Global Hunger Index 2014, studying malnourishment among adults and children, put India at the 55th position among poor countries.

•Nearly 22% (27 crore) of Indian people lived below the poverty line in 2011-12. (25.7% in rural areas and 13.7% in urban areas).

•The Global Peace Index 2014 places India at 143 among 162.

•India has been ranked 85th out of 175 countries in 2014 Corruption Perception Index.
The crisis we see today may be exacerbated, as a huge population is growing younger. An even larger number of youths, better informed and connected than ever, won’t have quality education, skill development, and income opportunities. Against the backdrop of probable global economic downturns and climate change, such a situation may turn into a major crisis. The outcome will depend on who tackles the situation. We can ill afford to sit idle. As Edmund Burke said, ‘The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.’

Need of the hour:

In a democracy all power lies in its people, who must be in a position to solve their own problems. Otherwise they will always run the risk of being exploited in various ways. The work must, therefore, start with making the people conscious of this power and organizing them. The nation calls its people to wake up and respond to the present crisis.
Pro-people, pro-environment mass movements without partisan banners are a global trend, but they stop short of achieving their goals due to lack of organization and leadership. We have to fill the gap. Preparation for the opportune moment well in advance is of supreme importance. There are many good efforts by individuals and organizations in this direction. Yet, as the problem is a national one, its solution must be so. We are yet to have a national movement with a holistic view, a well-knit organization and dedicated leadership for whole-scale national reconstruction.
We need a huge impact on the national psyche, which can come from fresh minds with immense vigour, dynamism, and innovative ideas. The need of the hour is a national youth movement, independent of partisan politics and dogmatic hang-ups, focused on character and leadership qualities, providing space for free thinking and creativity, inspiring dynamism and bravery, empathy and sacrifice.

Our initiative:

We want to bring groups of youths into a network with the vision of a new resurgent India, and with them form a nucleus for future work through training and development. They may work in collaboration or alliance with all other positive forces in future to create synergy effects to bring about desired changes. Such efforts may also build a strong foundation for future political governance.
The movement, National Youth Unity (NYU), will endeavour in every possible way to achieve these objectives.

Our Mission:

We shall work for rousing and organizing the power of the Indian people, especially youth power, for all round national reconstruction on national lines and promoting unity of all good forces for this purpose.
