The CALCUTTA MONTESSORI TRAINING CENTRE Course has been adopted from the American Montessori Society approved Montessori Teacher Training Courses in America to meet the specific requirements of the Indian children. In India only those training courses approved by the TEACHER TRAINING SOCIETY is authorised to train trainees for the TTS Pre-Primary Montessori and Primary Diploma Certificate. In Kolkata , this is the only course approved by the TEACHER TRAINING SOCIETY to conduct such training. The duration of the course is 12 months.

Since 1983 the Calcutta Montessori Training Centre has been conducting a one year undergraduate Pre-Primary and Montessori Diploma Course in Kolkata. The course is designed by the Teacher Training Society (a government registered body). Teachers graduating from this course are qualified to teach in English medium primary schools and Montessori houses.

The main objective of the training is to equip teachers with the skills required to teach young children. Emphasis is given to "learning by doing"- activity based learning, development of creative skills, self-development and inculcation of moral and spiritual values.
The course prepares teachers in all professional subjects, viz. Developmental Psychology, Principles of Education and School Organization, Theory of Montessori Methods. Instructions are also given in Practical Subjects such as Art and Craft, EPL, Language & Sensorial, Arithmetic, Lesson Plan and preparation of Teaching Aids.
