About Ichchhedana in 75,Ibrahimpur road,Jadavpur, Kolkata

Ichchhedana- the wings of hope started off with ten odd members on 15th August 2011- an auspicious day for every true Indian. The initiative began as a small endeavour from some college students who thought about giving something to the society in return.

In the words of Robert Frost- “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I took the one less travelled by, and that has made the difference. “

Similarly we the members of Ichchhedana took the different path to bliss. We skipped our restaurant and mall outings to spend time with underprivileged children. We celebrated Independence Day of 2011 with the students of Briji Free Primary School- a government school where children from the adjoining slums study. The sheer enthusiasm of these little angels overwhelmed us. In the midst of the drawing and recitation competitions that we had organised, the fact that came to light was their craving to go to a good school, enjoy life, learn various things. To encourage them and to make them happy, we presented gifts to each one of them apart from the prizes to the winners of the competitions. With no sponsors by our side( we till now didn't seek help from any), the members shed out their pocket money to buy gifts for these kids. The smile on their faces instilled in us the confidence to continue with our work in future.

On Diwali we distributed dresses to children of an orphanage Sarada Children's Home.On 15th August 2012 we spent time with children from a cancer hospital(Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Cancer Research Institute). The importance of our work to us and itspositive implications on people gave way to the thought of getting our group registered. On we achieved success in registering our group as a society under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act. Kamadhari Ichchhedana Cultural Society was a registered society now and with every passing quarter new members joined our group. At the count of twenty member strong group we look forward to our next initiative once again at Briji Primary School. We are organising a cultural event comprising of plays, dance dramas, etc to be held on the 6th of April 2013. The event will be a culmination of acts performed by the group members along with the children of the school. As we the members are busy rehearsing for the events and teaching the kids to dance and act, a sense of accomplishment blooms in our hearts. The feeling of success is drawn from the smiles and excitement of these underprivileged children. The achievement is being able to bring the ‘curve on their faces that straightens everything!’
