In 2010, Dr. Jai Ranjan Ram and Mrs. Sreemoyee Ram founded the Mental Health Foundation (MHF), Kolkata, to address the growing need in the city for a ‘one-stop-shop’ for psychiatric, psychological and social care issues in children, adolescents and adults.
Professionals from the fields of Psychiatry, Social Care, Psychology, Special Education and Physiotherapy provide superior quality mental health services under one roof.
The approach at MHF for diagnosis and treatment is multi-disciplinary, that is, a client visits multiple professionals for a comprehensive and holistic assessment and intervention.

The team of professionals and consultants are equipped to handle learning, emotional, behavioural and developmental issues in childhood and psychological and psychiatric problems in adulthood and across the life span. They draw on several years of experience in diverse settings – in institutional and community care, in clinical and non-clinical settings. A number of team members have international training and experience in their areas of specialty. A strong foundation in social work, mental health and education and the latest research inform all their initiatives.

A) Comprehensive clinic-based services which include:
i)Psychiatric diagnosis, evaluations and treatments
ii)Psychological evaluations for diagnosis, and counseling
iii)Psycho-educational and developmental assessments
iv)Psychotherapy
v)Special education evaluations for diagnosis and treatment for academic and adaptive behaviours
vi)Paediatric Physiotherapy

Our library of standardized assessment tools is the most comprehensive in Eastern India, and includes resources for assessment of:
-IQ and Specific Learning Disability/Dyslexia
-Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
-Autism
-Emotional and Behavioural Problems
-Mental Retardation
-Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Delay
-Psychiatric Disorders in Children and Adolescents

B) Outreach services which include:
i)Psychiatric Social Work
ii)Support, Sensitization and Training for handling social care issues
iii)Liaison work with schools and workplaces
iv)Training educators
v)Training parents


C) School and community based workshops and conferences for professionals and lay persons.
National and International experts are periodically invited to conduct some of these workshops and training programs.
The areas focused on are issues that affect learning and psychological development, and effective ways of understanding and dealing with them.
These workshops provide adults with an insight into the mindscape of children and provide them with pragmatic skills of helping children to optimize their potential.

D) Staff capacity building services for schools and development and humanitarian organisations.
This includes providing interactive support to schools for children with learning, behaviour or emotional problems as and when required.
This may come in the form of working together with the teacher in charge of the child/ parents of the child / the child her/himself.

E) Additionally, a number of individuals on the MHF team are involved in clinical research on a range of mental health issues in conjunction with universities and international organisations.
