About Regional Labour Institute, Kolkata in Laketown, Kolkata

The office of the Chief Adviser of factories, which is now called Directorate General, Factory Advice Service and Labour Institutes, was setup in 1945 with the objective of advising Central And State Governments on administration of the Factories Act and coordinating the factory inspection services in the States. The Directorate General, Factory Advice and Labour Institutes (DGFASLI) comprises:
Headquarters situated in Mumbai
1.Central Labour Institute in Mumbai
2.Regional Labour Institutes in Chennai, Kanpur, Kolkatta and Faridabad.

The Regional Labour Institute, Kolkata was set up at the present location in the year 1965. It was inaugurated by the then Hon'ble Union Labour Minister Shri D. Sanjivayya at a function presided over by Shri P.C. Sen,the then Hon'ble Chief Minister of West Bengal. The institute serves the Eastern States of the country.
