-AN ART COLLECTIVE COLLABORATIVE INITIATIVE

PANDEMONIUM… more than a group it is a concept!
There is a space between who we are and who we want to be, between what we do and what we want to do and of course between how we live and what life we dream for. That particular space initiates the idea of an alternative space named PANDEMONIUM. Pandemonium is a dream come true initiative; an initiative of practicing performance arts, performing arts and visual arts under the same umbrella. It is not just a group of mere performers but a concept itself. Yes, we practice arts, do experimentations, construct and reconstruct various forms of arts, execute and explore different forms in broader level.

Actually, we do not perform just to entertain people and earn applauds and appreciation. We basically wish to trigger a world-wide revolution through our performance(s). One can call it a day dream but we are living each moment to make the dream come true.

Pandemonium is basically the gun, we have chosen to bloom thousand flowers. We have turned it into an estuary where all the art forms like writing, acting, painting, music, songs, dance, photography, cinematography and so many other forms meet together and create magic. And the magic does sustain. We just do not want to remain numb anymore to all the incidents we are being the victims of. We react! There is not point of being victims and see people around you to be victimised. Better be survivors. We do believe in surviving, we do believe in protesting and we do believe in bringing change for the sake of humanism.

The story behind the name ‘PANDEMONIUM’…
This platform of reaction has been named as Pandemonium because we consider ‘Satan’ and his ‘fallen angels’ to be the true revolutionists. They fought for their right, for justice, for truth, for knowledge and for equality, we believe. And they made a Pandemonium to plan the revolution. Here, we are borrowing their name for obvious reasons.

Pandemonium becomes yours as well...
In the beginning it was our initiative. 'Us' define the group members of Pandemonium. But slowly, gradually, with each performance you start becoming the part of this initiative also. We started our journey from street. It was 5th September 2015. We started performing on street and connect mass through live music, street play and live painting on street.

Pandemonium uses different spaces to incorporate experimentation...
With the time, over the year, we have expanded our vision and the area of our work. We are utilising different spaces like streets, intimate theatre spaces, under construction buildings, garages, wire houses, transports, stages, screens and so on in order to incorporate our experimentation.

Pandemonium's street ventures...
'Swapnamukhosh', 'Wasted', 'Viswarupam', 'Plastic Puppetry', 'The Interrupted Canvas' are the successful street ventures of ours. 'Debi' and 'From Chaos to Another Chaos' were the series of different performances by utilizing streets, cafeteria and intimate theater.

Cinetheatre is all about…
We must share a little achievement of Pandemonium within just a year. A brand new form named Cinetheatre has been initiated by our founder Abhijit Ray and start being executed by us in different spaces. Cinetheatre is not only the coinage of two different words but of two different concepts. After a long term research we realised that mass are losing interest in theatres and get attracted to cinema like anything. We feel the urgency to make a theatre production technologically sound and conceptually concrete at the same time. And that realisation leads our founder to give birth to Cinetheatre. Well! You can say use of projection and LED is nothing new in theatre. Yes, we agree. But we have done something even more than that. We offer you not to just enjoy cinema and theatre together at the same time in the same theatre, but you to witness how characters of cinema and theatre can communicate with each other, how a character from screen gets entered on stage and vice versa and so on. Cinetheatre is all together a different genre where cinema and theatre can have the interaction with each other. No, not only from the visual aspect, collage or from the aspect of narration! In spite of being in different time and space a character from theatre can spontaneously exchange his/her dialogues with a character from cinema who is restricted with a limited screen time in this particular genre and vice versa.

Our Cinetheatre Productions…

We came up with our first Cinetheatrical production (Proscenium) named ‘Gupi Bagha Returns’ at Gyan Manch in the month of December of 2015. And then the Cinetheatrical journey of Pandemonium continues.

The two different chapters our second Cinetheatrical production (Intimate) named ‘From Chaos to Another Chaos’ have been performed in the intimate space of Proscenium Art Centre at different times of 2016.

We performed ‘One Last Time from Aleppo’, the third Cinetheatrical production (Intimate) on 1st January, 2017 at Proscenium Art Centre.
