We at Kabul Kolkata, bring for the first time to the city of joy, the cuisine which captures the enchanting essence of Afghanistan.

Long before Rabindranath Tagore made "Kabuliwalas" familiar in every Bengali household, the Afghans had crossed the Khyber Pass to come over to the country. History says that the Afghans have been coming to India since the late 18th century to sell dry fruits, spices and attar. The prosperity of India under the British Raj made this land an attractive source of livelihood for them. And Kolkata, then known as Calcutta, was the favourite destination for them since it was the capital of the then British empire. Kolkata ceased to be the capital 102 years back, but for the Afghans, the city still holds its charm.
Thousands of Afghans have lived for decades in the Indian city of Kolkata (Calcutta). Over the past century, this interpretation has helped shape a romantic image of Afghans and their oft ignored cuisine in Kolkata and beyond.
Our food is cooked in clay ovens or “tandoor”, in the traditional style of the region.

This style of cooking requires great expertise on the part of our chefs, who hail from their native country and have travelled many miles only to showcase authentic Afghani food to their much loved city of Kolkata.

Gauging the right mix of spices, mixing marinades, and the optimum operation of the clay oven are just some of the many aspects that our chefs have taken into consideration while preparing this first of its kind cuisine experience in Kolkata!
