The Government Polytechnic Talwar was established by the State Government in the year 2008 with two diploma courses in civil engineering and automobile civil engineering of 3 years duration.

The institute is approved by the All India Council of Technical Education of Government Of India (AICTE) and affiliated with H.P Takniki Shiksha Board Dharamshala.
The campus is located 50 km from Palampur and 38 km from Hamirpur.
