About Maa Paglachandi Mandir in Paglachandi, Kaliganj

Paglachandi, named after divine pulsations of Maa Paglachandi, is an old village under Kaliganj Pollice Station of Nadia District, West Bengal. It is a 10 minutes boat ride from Paglachandi Railway Station under Eastern Railway's Sealdah-Lalgola section (144km away from Sealdah). By road, it is three kilometers east to the Panighata or Jamalpur bus-stand on National Highway-34. The Mandir is situated on the bank of Paglachandi Daha which is also named after Maa.

Nestled in the fascinating surroundings of the historical Battle Field of Plassey of North Nadia, a small village of yore, now is known more by the divinity of Maa Paglachandi Mandir.

Though the exact year of foundation is still unknown, according to hearsay the Mandir was established in early seventeenth century. It was first renovated by Bridge and Roof Company around the year 1905 and later the prominent Barrister and then Member of Parliament Mr. Shankar Das Banerjee helped renovate in the current form. Recently, by the generous donation of prominent Barrister and former Member of Parliament Mr. Satyabrata Mukherjee (Julu Babu) a new structure with dome shaped rooftop has been constructed for religious activities.

The place has now become a pilgrimage centre of renown, visited by devotees from all parts of the district, nay the state. Everyone is equal to Maa. Both Hindus and Muslims come to pray on each Full-Moon and New-Moon. The special celebrations during the last Tuesday of Baishaka make the temple abuzz with religious fervour to the delight of the devotees congregating in hundreds. The Khichdi Prasad distributed on that day to approximately hundreds of visitors is a rare sight to see and believe.
