Organic agriculture has grown out of the conscious effort by inspired people to create the best possible relationship between the earth and man. During the last two decades there has also been a significant sensitization of the global community towards environmental preservation and assuring of food quality. It now has concern for healthy soil, healthy food, and healthy people. Organic agriculture movement is gaining momentum in the country.
For small and poor farmers organic can be an effective risk management tool that reduces their input costs, diversifies their production and improves local food security. For rural communities it can provide improved incomes, better resources management and more labour opportunities. The soil in the northeast are better in nutrient then other region, the organic carbon content in many part of India is 0.2;% to 0.3% but in northeast region it is even 0.8% or higher. It is endowed with forest wealth and is ideally suited to produce a whole range of plantation crops, spices, fruits, vegetable, flowers and herbs, mostly organic by default. According to government figures of the net cultivated area of 4.3 million hectares, around 30.91 lakh hectares have never seen the face of chemical fertilizer or pesticide.
