You are well aware that now corruption is a major issue that is being discussed across the country. There are several suggestions to overcome this problem and based upon my two decades of journalistic experience, I found that the lack of awareness and better understanding about various procedures, rules, regulations, guidelines among general public is the root cause for this problem. Astonishingly is also learned that even all the employees working in the government are not fully aware of these procedures, rules, regulations, guidelines.
Further it was found that neither government bothers to provide updated information on regular intervals or organises/conduct any periodical training to update its employee’s knowledge. The situation is same from TOP at secretariat level to BOTTOM at village level. Lack of this exercise has proved costly and flow of information about various rules, regulations and guidelines was nil virtually. It is well known fact that no body bothers to verify or check the knowledge of its own employees periodically about this knowledge.
As there is no proper information/knowledge at the source level itself, the situation has become worst for consumers of government such as general public, trade and business establishments, NGOs etc., who regularly interact with the government and seeks services from the government establishments. As this lack of knowledge resulting into confusion and further defying, subverting the rules and regulations by individual employees resulting into corruption.
Several efforts such as latest RTI act has given opportunity for every body to solve this problem, but still lot needs to be done. This is where, we thought of launching this organisation named MERESARKAR. MERESARKAR will create tools such as web sites, individual booklets, organise conference, organise training sessions to share the knowledge related to governance among various stake holders such as general public, employees, trade & business community, NGOs etc., Thus allowing different stake holders to learn, understand various procedures, rules, regulations related to governance.
We strongly feel this exercise of sharing the knowledge related to governance will definitely empower people in getting better services and also question those who subvert the procedures, guidelines, rules for their personnel gains. We know it is a difficult and enormous task, but with a commitment it can be achieved and we are now gearing up to launch our first tool www.meresarkar.org, a web enabled platform that will contain all necessary information related to governance. It will also notify the public about various happenings in governance on day to day basis.
