BREAD Children’s Library

Govt. school children have no access to reading books other than text books. With a view to inculcating reading habit among them, BREAD Society has started establishing Children’s Libraries in government high schools. It has set up 400 libraries in the last four years making it the Flagship program of BREAD Society.

600 books for children in the age group of 10-14 years are selected by an Expert Committee. A steel book case with four lockable hanging glass doors is also provided for safe custody of books.

Sponsor a Library
A donor may choose a govt. high school to sponsor a Children’s library by contributing Rs. 25,000. BREAD Society will establish the library saving Rs. 5,000 in the purchase of books. It will create a Corpus for Prizes of Rs. 10,000 with a matching grant from it. Prizes to students with best write-ups on books read by them are given annually. Write-ups are conclusive proof of students reading library books.

Selection of School for the Library
Donor can choose a school or leave it to BREAD Society. Govt. conducts National Means cum Merit Scholarship (NMMS) test for govt. and aided school students in 8th Class and gives a scholarship of Rs. 6,000 per annum for 4 years to successful students. BREAD will select a school securing 6 or more NMMS awards to its students in a year.

Maintenance of the School Library
Class teachers will nominate three students from each section, preferably two girls and a boy. Library teacher will train them to issue books to classmates. They will manage the library under library teacher’s guidance.

Review of Usage
Periodically, we review the usage of the books by field visit, through local volunteers and telephone calls.

Reports to donors
Donor get a summaries of articles written by children etc...
