About MCYM Faridabad in ST.MARY'S MALANKARA CATHOLIC CHURCH, sector 10, Faridabad

The Faridabad Malankara Community is formed in early 1980s. As the major chunks of the members were youth, a need for a Youth Movement (MCYM) was never felt at that time. In October 1992, a new comer to our community raised the need for a Youth Movement, however, that was denied due to various reasons. But few young guys were not ready to give-up their thirsty for a MCYM Unit and started the background work it’s formation. With the appointment of very young Rev. Fr. Thomaskutty Pathinettil as the Priest-In-Charge for Faridabad, the hope rebuilt within the young members.

MCYM Faridabad Unit formed and inaugurated in July 10, 1993 after the Holy Mass at Carmel Convent School, Faridabad. The first Executive Members were Mr. Geevarghese TB (President), Mr. Peter Samuel (Vice President), Mr. Shaji Varghese (Secretary), Mr. Rajan Mathew (Joint Secretary) Mr. Biju Cherian (Treasurer), Mr. K A Thomas (Animator) & Fr. Thomaskutty Pathinettil (Director). The team immediately swing into actions and organised various programs including 1-day Seminar for the youth members of Faridabad & Delhi at Bethany Convent, Sector-29, Faridabad; wherein around 63 members were participated within the limited administrative facilities and Mr. V A George, Pune led the classes. 1994-05 year witnessed a slow down of unit as most of the Executives moved out of Faridabad.

In 1996, with the appointment of Fr. Cherian Mambrakuzhy, a new Team, those born and brought up here took charge and then after never looked back. Along with the rapid growth of the unit, we nurtured many leaders to take key role and responsibilities at Regional and ETRI level. Mr. Shaji Varghese (Reg. Secretary, Reg. Animator, Regional Animator-Baldeep, MCCDRC Jt. Secretary) Mr. Denit Thomas (Reg. Secretary), Lijo John (Reg. Secretary) Ms. Jerin Varghese (Reg. Vice President, Editor-Malankara Voice), Mr. Tincy George (Reg. President, ETRI Secretary/Treasurer) Ms. Jini Joy (ETRI Vice President) are the leaders taken higher responsibilities and challenges from MCYM Faridabad unit.

1996-2004 was the golden era of Faridabad Unit under the Directorship of Fr. Cherian Mambrakuzhy, Fr. Varghese Madathikunnathu, Fr. Thomas Moothanteth and Fr. Ninan Chackalapadickal. Today, our members are very actively contributing and taking part in various areas of Education, Charity, Social & Liturgy.

In 1999, we have inaugurated MCYM Library by Rev. Fr. Cherian Thazhamon. In 2004, Malankara Community of Delhi Region witnessed a major step taken by Faridabad Unit towards the education of underprivileged children from the backward society. We have collected around Rupees One lac through lucky draw and educating 2 students every year then onwards.

Another major step taken by MCYM Faridabad Unit was to form a Choir in 2007. Today, Angel Voice Choir is well recognised in Malankara as well as other communities in NCR. It was our privileges to accompany H. E. Jacob Mar Barnabas for various liturgical and Sacrament Services both in Delhi and out stations. The Liturgical Support in Hindi during the Charismatic Convention organised by Delhi Archdiocese given us motivational recognition to our hard work. We are happy to see other units following our footsteps by forming Choir in their units.

Few of the major initiatives unit took place in the past are: Mar Ivanios Memorial Quiz Competition on Mar Ivanios Day Celebrations. All MCYM Units of NCR Delhi as well as Sister Churches (Orthodox, Jacobite & Marthomite) were actively participating in this event. Onam celebration: “Onapattu & Attapookkalam” competition amongst the MCYM Units. This year (2009) witnessed another leap in our unit by organising an Ever-Rolling Volley Ball Tournament for the Malankara parishes of NCR Delhi.

We are well conscious towards the love and care for the poor, backward community. Every year, we do Charity / social initiatives. Visiting Leprosy inmates (Faridabad), Orphanages (Chandapur, Mother Teresa Missionary, Akasha Paravakal) etc are few of them to highlight. MCYM Faridabad unit always emerged and retained the Championship during all the Youth Fest organised by MCYM Delhi Region. Our Youth Members also contributing in various areas of Church/Society in different way.

Today we have 45 members in our unit, out of which 23 members are out to various states/counties for higher education/job. With the appointment of Fr. Sam Pathackal as our Vicar & Unit Director, our unit waked up with a new vision and mission. We have organised quite few programs / initiatives during the last one year.

Faith formation: We take initiatives in conducting regular Bible Study classes, Liturgical Choir and Alter Services, involvement in all parish celebrations/programs nurturing & supporting Baldeep etc are some of our other involvements. Organising and leading liturgical retreat and special prayers on special occasion is a normal activity of our unit. We meet every 1st Sunday for meeting, every 4th Sunday for Bible studies & every 2nd Saturday evening for Prayer Sessions.

We take this opportunity to express our happiness, gratitude and thanks to all those who have contributed towards the growth; our Directors, Rev. Sisters, Parents, Well wishers, Delhi Regional Executive Members for their contributions. We look forward to continue getting these supports in the coming days. We also thankfully remember the first Executives for their vision, hard-work and for laying down a strong base for MCYM at Faridabad.

Known for Unity, Team Work, Dynamism and Leadership, Faridabad unit is well recognised across MCC ETRI today. While concluding, we believe that this is just a beginnings and long way to go
