About Society of Modern Agriculture Reformed Technology - SMART in Hill Cart Road, Sonada, Darjeeling

Society of Modern Agriculture Reformed Technology (SMART) is a Non profit making organization working for welfare of the society in and around Darjeeling District. SMART is mainly established for development of Agriculture sector which is backbone of Indian economy. Now a days number of peoples are moving toward urban village for their livelihood. Only 30% peoples are actual farmers who are engage in producing food for 100% population. SMART is working effectively with farmers at area where there is no sufficient drinking and irrigation water (such as hilly and barren land area) poor socio economical facility; to empower farmer, to market the products, emphasize adult education, start health care centre and welfare of women and children and helping the unemployed youth sustain for life and to generate employment for the unemployed youths.
In Hilly area such as Darjeeling, there is no market for the products and farmers are facing problems to store their products and also there is poor transportation system. So there is a large wastage of vegetables and fruits. Seeing all these things, farmers are discouraged to grow their products and leave their land waste and barren. So SMART, not only help them to market their product but also help to export their products to different parts of India and abroad. SMART also keep awareness program from time to time so that the farmers may benefit and be economically fit for their livlihood. SMART also encourages the agriculturist to be the entrepreneur through modern technology.
SMART wants to work in such area where there is -
1.No sufficient drinking and irrigation water. In summer season water tankers are providing drinking water.
2.Low literacy percentage because poorness of family and unavailability of schools/Colleges/ Technical institutes.
3.Unavailability of Agricultural education/training to farmer about new techniques.
4.Poor transportation and bad condition of roads in such villages.
5.Absence of Primary health care facility.
6.Problem of child labour.
7. Unemployment.
8.No market for their products.
9.No storage for their products
