At Apollo, Chennai , doctors refused to even look at the fur-uncle that developed below the left knee of my sick brother. The dermatologist just prescribed few medicines yet not considered the patient's level of tolerance . The high doses of anti-antibiotics would have caused more harm than cure. When I mentioned my brother's weak health, the doctor at Apollo , Chennai , was rude and only showed his arrogance and told me if I want my brother to get well I must give those medicines.
As a layman , I knew if antibiotics is to be administered but the patient should at least take proper meals or food , which my brother was unable to do . So I took my call ant treated his fur-uncle myself and waited for another doctor to return from his vacation.
On recommendation of this doctor my next destination was CMC, Vellore. I got my brother admitted there and treatment started initially under the guidance of one able Dr Thomas for my brother's uncontrolled diabetics. Till then everything was fine .But the ordeal started as my brother was handed over to the Nephro II Department of CMC, Vellore. The worst happened with wrong diagnosis and administration of Pednisolone - a steroid in a high dose of 110mg.
There was sudden weight gain, face deformation, pulmonary edema and water accumulation in lungs, high blood pressure and high sugar level . BP was constantly recorded between 250-275 and sugar level went as high as 575, and also developed breathing difficulty . My brother needed Nebulisation every 2 to 4 hrs . That was when I resorted my Google doctoring and started my cross-questioning the doctors who were otherwise tight-lipped about their treatments, did not like my questioning and gave unconvincing and fumbling replies. At that time I felt i have more knowledge than those doctors
I was not at all convinced with their replies and deep down I felt something was wrong and I needed to take my brother out from here else I would lose my brother to their unnecessary experimentation and wrong diagnosis and treatment . Today I feel I took the wisest decision, though until then I was not aware of either Dr. Vivek Pathak or of KMCH, Coimabatore.
Immediately after returning to Bangalore from CMC Vellore, I got to know about Dr. Vivek Pathak through one of his patient ( a family friend of us) who too was misled by many doctors before finally getting treatment from Dr. Pathak and then undergone kidney transplant 8 years back at KMCH Coimbatore .
The very next day ( January 8, 2014) I took my brother to KMCH and the treatment started . I was asked why I took my brother there, I told Dr Vivek Pathak ,exactly the same what I wrote above. I also told him , that today onward I would not Google and I would only come to take back my all-well brother . I was convinced at the very first meeting with Dr. Vivek Pathak that I reached the correct place and where my brother would get back his health .Yes October 10th 2014 ..my brother is all well and we are back in Bangalore.
It was unavoidable to go through many rigorous treatment procedures , including dialysis , biopsy and so on. It could have been avoided had we met Dr. Pathak earlier. I have made this page so that many patients who may be running from pillar to post for accurate diagnosis and treatment , specially kidney patients can avoid delaying the right treatment and save their precious time and money and take the treatment from the able hands of Dr. Pathak and relax just the way I did!
