About Xandari Pearl in Beach Road, Arattukulam Junction, Mararikulam North P.O, S L Puram, Alleppey, Cherthala

Marari is a walking property in order to encourage guests to engage more with the environment. The trees along the walkways are labeled so that guests can be exposed to the diverse varieties being grown on site, including an “edible landscape” incorporating 30 varieties of banana as well as a wide collection of other fruit species. This is to help encourage guest exposure to biodiversity. Red sandalwood is endangered and being grown on site. Guests can also enjoy the range of wildlife that come to the resort’s rainwater harvesting pond.

Organic farming (vegetables as well as poultry and goats) are also incorporated into the landscape, directly serving the kitchen as well as other Xandari properties for farm to table experience. Kitchen scraps are composted on site using vermiculture to be used in the vegetable garden.

In Kerala it is the ancestral right of a certain member of the community to maintain coconut trees. The 600-plus trees on Xandari Pearl’s 18 acres are cared for in this way, adding to the employment of local community members. The resort architecture consciously maintains numerous coconut, mango, cashew and non-fruit bearing trees, in many cases literally working around them. The few trees that were harvested were used in construction.

Each of the 20 private villas is designed with the intention of having a minimized carbon footprint by creating a spacious but not excessive interior AC area, with the luxury of an open, yet private walled garden area.
