Kum.R.Divya Lakshmi is a versatile & accomplished performing guru with choreographic excellence, ebullient, dedicated and spirited, Divya Lakshmi is pleasure to watch as she transforms from energetic dancer, to a mischievous Krishna, to a scorned nayaka, to a benevolent hero, and back again to the nritta performer, while exploring the varied nuances of Bharatanatyam. Her tutelage under Guru.Shri.Binesh mahadevan and later for excellence in dance she joined under the guidance of Kalaimamani Sailaja, has groomed her with the right perspective, perfection, devotion to the art.
Going beyond the usual performance-bound lives of most dancers, she is also the founder and creative Director of NATYARPANA, School of Bharatanatyam, Chennai. With the support and encouragement of her parents, Natyarpana is an organization which is persistently working for promotion and propagation of the classical arts.
Divya Lakshmi masterfully juggles both nritta and nritya in her performances. Her ballets tread the fine balance between character expositions and pure, unhindered dance, both of which she uses consummately to explore the spatial nuances of story-telling. Her compelling stage presence draws viewers’ eyes to her face and her feet- her two most expressive and hypnotic assets. Her movements, though quick and nimble are precise and deft. Her understanding of personality nuances is deep, which enables her to portray a number of characters with conviction and integrity. Simply put, her dancing is effortless and her choreography is immersive.
In addition to performing gracefully across North & South India, Divya Lakshmi teaches Bharatanatyam to both the young and old in her efforts to preserve the tradition of classical art.
The school has produced many striking dancers since its inception through a well formatted syllabus importing training in theoretical and practical nuances of dance with special focus on laya aspect and abinaya. She imparts her knowledge of Bharatanatyam to many aspiring students through her dance institute.
Through NATYARPANA, Divya Lakshmi wishes to bridge the gap between art, artistic and art lovers.
