About Hope For The Hopeless in 203 Crown Court Apts, 8 Bank Street, Kilpauk, Chennai

It began by feeding just one person by giving him provisions on a monthly basis, he had no home and would use the pavement to cook his food. We then visited the home of another family who approached us for help and we found them so badly off. The rain gets into their thatched home and the floor was so damp and the children were lying on a mat crying with hunger. We immediately helped them with provisions and also got them a folding steel cot with a mattress and pillows. We approached our friends for help by way of donations in cash or kind and we found that everyone wanted to chip in without hesitation. Soon the number of our HFTH families started increasing and some of them also sought help with paying school fees, books, uniforms etc. for their children. We found that the tempo was picking up and we decided that the time had come to do something more concrete. We were looking out for someone to help us in our venture and wanted a person who was like minded, young, dynamic and who could take this project forward. We talked to Sagayaraj who was already involved in charity work and he was willing to join us in our plans and between the three of us, we decided to get ourselves registered and in 2009 Hope for the Hopeless Trust was born. Milton Peters is the Chairman and Sagayaraj and Patti are Member Trustees. A year later we got on-board another Member Trustee, Malini Sagayaraj who was working with other groups doing social service. We have a band of volunteers who assist us in our field work.

We were able to increase the number of families for monthly provisions and were also able to help more children with their education. Medical assistance is also given and we have identified doctors who do free service.

We organize a Diwali get-together and give gifts to all our sponsored families. At Christmas time, Sports and a tea party is organized for the little children and they are all given goody bags to take home. On the 18th August 2012, a self employment programme for women was launched. Some were trained on making different types of detergents and others were trained on beauty treatment.

Our motto is “to serve with love” and our aim is to bring a smile to the faces of our underprivileged brothers and sisters.
