Kongo Zen's philosophy is derived from Buddha's teachings about natural law and human participation in it.

The primary teaching among them is the theory of 'innen' based on the principle of 'engi'.

The "in" of innen means "cause" or "origin", and "en" means "connection" or "mediation". The concept represented by these two words is that any event (outcome) in the universe is based on and consists of the connection of various causes. In short, all things are connected, and nothing is more than a connection between others.

From ancient times there have been the belief that the unchangeable past determines the present and future, leaving mortals at the victims of Fate. Kongo Zen teaches that , there is no force in the world, neither past nor present, that can force you to to read another line here, if you make up your mind to read no more. In this way, all human beings are free to choose their own actions. Within the realm of what each person can do, each is free to create origins of future good and evil.
