The delightful Saiva Virundhu is a vegetarian meal experience which is a lavish spread of Paruppu, Nei, Vatha Kuzhambu, Urulai Podimas, Keerai Masiyal, Masala Poriyal, Mango Pachadi, Sambar, Rasam, Thavala Wada, Rice, Curd and Payasam. If you are non-vegetarian you can relish the Asaiva Virundhu which includes Karuveppilai Meen Varuval, Mutton Kathrikkai Kuzhambu, Kozhi Varuval, Urulai Podimas, Keerai Masiyal, Rasam, Rice, Parotta, Curd and Payasam. The uniqueness of Thanjavur food is that it is served on banana leaves within a two or four compartment based Thookku carrier. The food is slow cooked in earthenware pots using only pure cow ghee, making it almost mandatory for you to use your hands while eating for a finger licking good experience. You will be surprised to find on the menu fish that is not commonly found in restaurants, like Vral (snake head fish), White Bait and Milk Shark.
