About Tirthan Valley in Tirthan Valley , Himachal Pradesh, Banjar

Tirthan valley, also called the " The Trout Country" is situated in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The Valley takes its name from Tirthan River abounding in trout rich waters. The river originates from the icy–cold springs of Hanskund Peak (Approx 4600 Mts) in the heart of Great Himalayan National Park and flows through one of the finest forest reserves in the western Himalayas.

Tirthan Valley starts from its source inside Great Himalayan National Park at Tirath and culimates at Aut ( On Chandigarh/ Delhi - Manali National Highway or National Highway 21) where it joins Sainj & Beas Rivers.

This page has been made to bring together like minded nature friendly travellers to explore the area and share/cherish their experiences.

Access:-

Goshaini ( being in the middle of Tirthan valley) is at a distance of around 530 Kms from Delhi, 250 Kms from Chandigarh, 220 Kms from Dharamshala and around 200 to 250 Kms ( depending on the route you take) from Shimla.

By Road:-
The best way to reach from Delhi/ Chandigarh is to drive by your own car in one day or with a break at Chandigarh/ Bilaspur or at Pinjore/Nalagarh. The route will pass through Delhi - Chandigarh – Ropar - Kiratpur – Swarghat - Bilaspur - Mandi and Aut. ( If you are driving from Delhi and wish to avoid traffic of Ambala – Chandigarh – Ropar – Kiratpur and want to take a scenic countryside route then look out for Prince Hotel around 2 Kms ahead of Shahabad town, turn right after around 300 Mt ahead of Prince Hotel and drive through Saha – Shahzadpur – Ramgarh – Panchkula –Pinjore Gardens –Baddi – Nalagarh - Swarghat. This road meets the other road / NH 21 at Swarghat). If you are driving yourself and approaching the valley from Delhi/ Chandigarh, make sure that you leave the highway before Aut tunnel and follow the road on the right along Tirthan River for 30 Kms till Goshaini. At Larji ( 2 Kms after the right turn) take the road going to Banjar ( road turning right after the bridge) and follow the road going left after Khundan bridge (2 kms before Banjar town).

Another hassle free way to reach Goshaini is by taking an overnight A/C Volvo bus to Manali from Delhi (departing between 0530 PM – 0700 PM from Janpath, close to Imperial Hotel/ Chanderlok Building ) and get down at Aut, which is around 490 Kms from Delhi and 70 Kms short of Manali town. From Aut the drive to Goshaini is 30 Kms/ 1 ½ Hrs. The entire overnight journey will take approximately 14 - 15 Hrs. The A/C Volvo buses to Manali can be booked online through www.makemytrip or www.redbus.in. The overnight bus brings you at Aut between 0630 – 0730 AM, from Aut you can book a taxi or board the local bus going to Banjar and then take the bus going to Goshaini.

By Rail: -
The nearest Railway stations are Ambala (300 Kms), Chandigarh (250 Kms) and Kiratpur (200 Kms). From there it is approximately 6 - 7 hrs drive by taxi. It is not recommended unless you are coming from Mumbai/ Hyderabad/ Bangalore in a superfast train.

By Air: -
There use to be daily Kingfisher flight to Bhuntar Airport ( 10 Kms from Kullu) but is suspended presently. Goshaini is 50 Kms/ 2 hours drive from Bhuntar Airport.
