About BEAD Social Enterprise in HBR Layout 5th Block, Bangalore

BEAD's chief designer is now eighteen; she was thirteen years old when we started. BEAD is the result of a collaboration between her inexhaustible creative energy and her mother's conviction that we need to open doors to those who do not have the opportunities we do.

We work mainly with women because it is sound economics to put money in women's hands. We train them to create our products and they co-design as they gain confidence. They earn in three ways: per piece, incentives for maintaining quality and share of surplus on costs. We work on a not-for-profit basis by having no share in this surplus. We have grown organically by reinvesting the surplus into the enterprise to pay for additional raw material and labor.

We welcome collaborations with designers, donors and trainers in crafts. We look forward to opportunities to sell our products.
