About St. John the Evangelist Church J.C nagar in 2nd Main Road, Bangalore

The erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, reigning during 1930′s desiring to cater to the spiritual needs of the man & families in his regiment stationed at Bangalore ordered the provision of accommodation within the regiment area for practicing their faith. In compliance with the orders of the Maharaja of Mysore two tiled room quarters was alloted for all the religious communities ( Hindu, Muslim & Christians) in Mysore Infantry lines, (Where now stands the defence CIL building).

The Christian community in the regiment was predominantly of Roman Catholic faith and of Tamil origin. They began at this prayer hall a “Jabakoodam” (Praying Community) with St. Theresa of Child Jesus as the patron saint. On the request of this Catholic Community the resident priest from St. Francis Xavier’s Church (St. John’s Road, Bangalore) commenced the celebration of Sunday Morning Eucharistic celebration. The commitment, dedication and selfless sacrifices of Rev. Fr. Ronaldo, Fr. Bartolon and in the later years Fr. Servanton are still fresh in the memory of the faithful. It is on their spiritual witnessing that the present faith has grown and grounded to form this wonderful parish.
