The City of Bangalore is known for its love for music both classical and contemporary. The young and urban population has a strong appetite for contrasting styles of music, viz., Rock, Jazz and Blues. However, those who are keen to pursue their musical interests do not find many organized centers where they can learn various musical instruments systematically under the close supervision of a teacher and a trainer.

It is not enough that they learn music in such an environment, but also a find platform where they can demonstrate what they have learnt over time. It is only when one gets an opportunity to demonstrate his/her talents and skills in whatever forms of art it might be, he/she can strive towards professional excellence.

The Ninth Chord Music Academy which began functioning in 2007, was set up to cater to these needs, and promote and encourage passion for music and musical instruments. Ninth chord is the brainchild born out of a realization that there is a shortage of good music schools in the country where contemporary music and instruments are systematically taught.

GUITARS

The beginners’ course introduces students to the guitar utilizing a holistic approach to teaching. This course includes basic music theory lessons in order to set a foundation, based on which a students can further their ability to understand and learn the instrument as and when theoretical inputs are provided during the duration of this course. The beginners’ course also covers aspects such as chromatics, formation of major scales and chords and training with a metronome. This course is designed to provide students with a firm grounding in the basics of the guitar from which they will be able to expand on their knowledge and skill set.


DRUMS

The beginners drum course introduces students to various hand and leg coordination exercises using the drum sticks .He/ she is trained on the practice pads using the metronome and expected to achieve a desired speed, coordination and accuracy before moving on to the drum kit .The course also covers theory lessons and exposes students to drum notations which plays a very essential part in sight reading and writing music. Towards the end of the beginners course the student would have acquired basic skills of playing and understanding simple drum beat patterns involving snare ,hi-hat and bass drum.


GUITARS

The intermediate course builds on the theoretical and practical aspects that have been taught in the beginners’ course. Students are introduced to additional topics such as picking techniques and advanced chord construction. Theory lessons in this course include a “ear training” module and exposure to different genres of music.

DRUMS

The intermediate course will cover in depth different drum beat patterns and their application in various genres like rock, blues and funk etc. The student is also made to play along with other instrumental tracks to develop skills in synchronization and timing required for playing in a band ensemble. By this time the student would have also owned a good understanding of notations and sight reading and acquired the skill to play complex drum patterns. At the end of the course the student is awarded a intermediate course completion certificate and grade based on his /her performance at the academy.

Students seeking a direct entry into the Intermediate or Advanced courses are required to appear for an audition in order to have their skills assessed to determine if they are prepared to enter the chosen course. Following the auditions, the instructor at the 9th Chord Guitar Academy shall put forth his recommendations as to which course he thinks the student should enroll for.



GUITARS


The advanced course will cover in greater depth the nuances of playing the guitar. By this time the student is expected to have acquired a good understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of the instrument. The advanced course will concentrate primarily on speed training and improvisation techniques.

DRUMS

This course introduces students to complex drum patterns, and concentrates on developing ones self com-positional skills . The student is made to involve in various jam sessions, recordings and live performances of the academy accompanied by other students and teachers there by preparing one for the professional environment and career. At the end of the course the student is awarded a course completion certificate from the academy stating ones progress and excellence in the instrument.
