The Government Sandalwood Oil factory was founded with the ambitious motive of putting the Mysore state on the world map by producing the world's best quality sandalwood oil. It was founded by the then luminaries of Karnataka - The Maharaja of Mysore, His Highness Nalwadi Krishna Raja Wodeyar, and Sir M Visweshwaraiyya. This was in 1916, Mysore.
The first magnificent experiment of extraction of Sandalwood oil was successfully conducted at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
However, in the year 1918, a foreign guest gifted a very rare pack of sandalwood soaps produced using sandalwood oil which was sourced from our own country's resources of sandalwood to His Highness, Maharaja of Mysore.
This kindled the inspiration in His Highness to make best use of the available, rich resources of Sandalwood in the state of Mysore. Sri. SG Shastry a recognized Industrial Chemist was sent to London to learn more on the production of soap and perfumery technology. Thus began the historical era of MYSORE SANDAL SOAP.
MYSORE SANDAL SOAP with the primary sandal note used other essential natural oils like Vetivert, Patchouli, Geranium, Palm Rosa, Orange and Petitgrain. This was released to the market in 1918.
