SHISHU BHAVAN is a day care shelter for street and slum children in Goa India.The Shelter is a place of refuge to these children who would otherwise be roaming the streets,begging,stealing and exposed to drugs,physical and sexual abuse.Our mission is to enhance their quality of life by providing education and guidance to help strengthen them and their communities.Apart from schooling they receive a snack and a mid-day meal,which is probably their only meal of the day...They also receive clothing ,footwear, vitamins and medical help kindly donated by various volunteers from all over the world.We have a dedicated teacher ,Rupa ,a teacher assistant and a cook who work very hard to make it possible for these children to learn and grow in a fun and loving environment .We are also very fortunate to have many volunteers that help us with the children with their time or funds and we are always very happy to welcome them at the shelter.The shelter is located within reach of the slums they live in, by a large Tuk Tuk (see photo) .Presently we have 34 children visiting the centre every day,learning to read and write, speak Hindi and English. We have been able to sponsor 6 children this year to enroll in local schools and receive further education.By helping us to help them you are giving them the greatest gift " A CHILDHOOD WORTH REMEMBERING"
