House #22 Cafe Chennai:

House #22 is the first of a kind café in the old, Portuguese Settlement of St. Thomas mount, Chennai.

One look, and you will fall in love with this 150 year old, 2500 sq feet Colonial Mansion sitting pretty in the middle of a 4 ½ ground space of lush green landscape. Facing the North Parade Golf Grounds that is owned by the Cantonment, this new space is a breath of fresh air amidst a clutter of new cafes that have sprouted across the city. Last occupied by an Anglo Indian Family, this café takes you back to the British era, and time stops still, as you sit and sip a cup of tea- with a book in your hand and the breeze caressing your cheeks.

An architect can make a 150 year old property look and feel fabulous without actually changing too much: stir the soul without changing the spirit. House No. 22 is a standing testament of how one can reduce, reuse, recycle, renovate and restore a colonial mansion into a café that is redolent of old world charm.

The Space:

House No. 22 is a big blue and yellow manor- where sober, sophisticated British allure meets bright, yellow Indian vigor. This is a brand new space that is designed to be an interesting platform to launch and promote budding creative talent, served hot with British, French and Indian cuisine. Fashion designers, artists, writers and musicians now have a unique space to showcase all their new stuff.

House No. 22 is divided into The Garage, Shravan’s Boutique, The Deck, By The Well, The Corridor, The Lounge and The Terrace.

The Garage:

The Deck:

If you’re an artist who’s waiting to give the world the first look of what’s absolutely brand new, months after you’ve worked real hard on it- The Deck, is the place for you. This is an open area with a ramp and seating for around 100. It can’t get better than this, except that it does- all outdoor seating is authentic metal furniture that you’d general see in a British Garden. At the deck, you get a sneak peak of Talent that is fun, funky, freaky and fresh.

By The Well:

Ever seen a well in the city? Well, sit right ‘By The Well’, and grab a bite at House No,22. Don’t worry, you won’t fall into it: we’ve got it covered. It’s quaint, it’s pretty and it’s got mesh all over it. It’s all swell by the big fat well!

The Corridor:

Chill at the Corridor of cane furniture, loosely inspired by British High Chairs that one would otherwise spot in a breezy verandah on a lazy summer day.

The Lounge:

It’s a lounge of a different kind: this is an n built space, designed for displaying art installations. Live, Love and Lounge at House No.22.

The Terrace:

Sit back, smoke some swirls, and stretch your legs out at The House No. 22 Terrace. You’ve a to-die-view of the beautiful, big, green Parade Ground Golf Course right atop the big house. Also, witness a nice splash of occasional shooting stars and frequent, bright light flights taking off and landing from and at the Chennai International Airport.

The most appropriate way to describe Vasudha is that she is a jack of all trades; whether it’s getting her creative juices flowing or putting her knowledge to work, her biggest asset is making her dreams a reality. After receiving a degree in architecture she completed several independent projects and even worked for one of the biggest architectural firms in India while simultaneously partaking in her artistic passions.

Vasudha has made a name for herself in the creative industry with her enthusiasm for singing, acting in many short films and commercials, as well as her various modeling engagements. House 22 is a result of a goal she set in college kept in balance with her imaginative and architectural wisdom along with her entrepreneurial drive. She has restored and renovated the entire building and originated an idea that all fashion followers in Chennai could only dream of.
